Arc'teryx Now Making High-End Menswear

More companies are seeing the wisdom of marketing clothing products for bike commuters (and other active folks) all the time. Witness the Veilance Collection from Arc'teryx (via the Gear Junkie).

The blazers, jackets, trousers, and shirts of the collection are made of high-tech materials like Gore-Tex, Merino Wool, and Windstopper technology, and look like they'll be perfect for getting around in the cooler months while staying clean and dry on our bikes.

They're a bit pricey, but undeniably well made and should last a long time. And with markets like this, the pricier stuff will soon lead to other companies following their lead and driving prices down across the board. I look forward to seeing more such offerings from Arc'teryx and other companies!

People, not speed.

  1. A "bit pricey" is right. $800 for the blazer. eep!

  2. No kidding! My hope is that other brands see this and start moving in the same direction - and making items that are more affordable for the every day cyclist (as well as one who doesn't necessarily want to look like a crew member of the Nebuchadnezzar in The Matrix).

Some companies are already doing this - like Cordarounds and the like. The more the merrier.

Another point to make, though, is that it's cool to see that people are making HIGH END stuff for cyclists - and helping to remove some of the stigma of "cycling's for people who can't afford cars." Cyclists out on the town, looking good and prosperous is GREAT advertising to get more folks out there.
